A Letter to My Younger Self
You’re ambitious. You’re determined. You’re focused. People love this about you, but learn to love this about yourself. There is nothing wrong with wanting to accomplish your goals, so don’t let people make you feel any type of way about this. If they’re intimidated, it is their problem to deal with not yours. So keep being great, keep kicking ass and the rest will follow.
Stop trying to do so much, so fast. Slow down. Take a deep breathe. Give yourself a break when needed. Life is a journey. It’s a marathon, not a race. Things will happen when they are supposed to, not a moment sooner and not a moment later. I promise you this.
You’re too hard on yourself. Please be more kind. You run yourself thin and then you have nothing else left to give. This isn’t healthy. Isolating yourself as a result isn’t healthy. Please take better care of yourself because you will burn out. Know that self-love is the most important gift that you can give yourself. Stop looking for someone else to save you and decide to save yourself. Be your own hero. Walk in your own light. Realize that you are capable of doing great things and you are enough.
You’re a very understanding person. Sometimes too understanding. As a result, you let people take advantage of you. Stop it. Teach people how to treat you, or learn to expect what you accept. If there’s something you don’t like, just say it. No one is going to sit around trying to read your mind.
You can’t help those who don’t want to be helped. Time is something you don’t get back, so invest it in people wisely. On that note, when people show you their true colors, believe them. Friends may abandon you in your time of need, but you’re going to learn how to let go of those toxic relationships. It’s going to be hard at first, but it needs to be done, end of story.
Remaining optimistic will be difficult at times. There will be moments when you want to quit because you’re exhausted and sometimes life is tough. Don’t give up. These are the moments that help build character and help mold you into a strong person. So keep pushing through. You have everything handled and under control even if you don’t realize it at the moment.
Stop being your own worst enemy. Get out of your own head. Stop second guessing yourself and comparing yourself to others. Be confident in your abilities. You’re given the opportunities you’re given for a reason.
You will be given the opportunities you’ve always dreamed of. But, don’t let that blind you because there are going to be some major obstacles along the way that you never saw coming. Prepare yourself for this because no one ever said taking the road less traveled was going to be easy.
Going after your dreams and having the opportunity to move to an unknown city where you don’t know anyone is going to be scary. You’re going to have moments when you cry, but you’re going to have even more moments when you laugh. That’s just the ebb and flow of this thing called life. Don’t let the bad times get you too down and remain grounded during the great times.
You’re going to fall flat on your ass multiple times, but you’re also going to bounce back very quickly. Don’t fear the unknown and don’t become too comfortable in the things that you do know. You will feel yourself break only to feel yourself grow into the person you’re destined to be. I can tell you that you’re going to be so proud of her because she’s greater than anything you’ve ever imagined.
